From Hell it's 700 km on the E6 to Bodø north of the polar circle. The journey takes a day, since the road follows fjords, crosses several passes and many villages. On Sunday morning in Mo i Rana we are stopped by the police and have to do an alcohol test. The limit is 0.02% and strictly inforced. Only one last question: where is your front number plate? And we are on our way to Bodø. Luckily we are the last car to squeeze onto the ferry to Moskenes. 10 cars and trucks are left behind and the next ferry runs 24 hours later.

The first two days on Lofoten the sky is grey and its raining. We take some time off to explore the island. The distances are much longer than expected. What looks like 30 km on the map is 130 km in reality.

Eggum

The best sport climbing area on the islands is Eggum. We meet 3 Austrians, which are trying an 8a despite cold and wet conditions. There are 25 routes between 5c and 8b on the wall. The wall is steep enough to stay dry, but after extended periods of rain the rock starts to seep and the base is shared by sheep.

Aetat (8a)

One day later the skies are clear and we enjoy the views of great granite peaks in the soft light of the arctic. The sun in September raises as high as in Frankenjura in mid-December. The trees are already in fall colors and over our heads geese migrate south. Even the ferrys are already on the winter timetable. Summer is definitely over. We stop at a beautiful campground and use their washing maschines.

The hills are covered with blueberries. We have blueberry pancakes every day and in the evenings Debbie makes blueberry jam.

hmmm tasty...

Traditionally Lofoten lives from fishing. From November until February is stockfish season. We see drying racks everywhere. However during the summer months
tourism is the main source of income.

Cliffs in Sandvika

We spend the last two days climbing in the sun in Sandvika. Here are more than 20 routes on nice structured granite between 5c and 7c directly above the Artic sea. In the evening the Hurtigruten boats sail past our beach.
